Setting up SIP on your Yealink Handset

  • Updated

This guide will walk you through setting up your new SIP trunk on your Yealink handset.

Getting Started

What You’ll Need

  • A Yealink handset
  • A working internet connection
    • If using PoE (Power over Ethernet): The Ethernet cable provides both internet connectivity and power when connected to a PoE-enabled port on your switch or router.
    • If not using PoE: Ensure the Ethernet cable is connected to your router or switch for internet connectivity. Power will need to come from the handset's power adaptor plugged into an outlet.
  • Power source for the handset:
    • If using PoE: No separate power source is needed as power is supplied through the Ethernet cable.
    • If not using PoE: Connect the handset to a power adaptor and plug it into an outlet.
  • The Yealink handset’s IP Address
  • SIP account details:
    • SIP Server/Domain
    • SIP Username
    • SIP Password

Configuring Your Device

Step 1: Find Your Handset’s IP Address

You need the handset’s IP address to access its web interface.

  1. Press the Menu button on your handset.
  2. Navigate to Status or System Info (depending on the model).
  3. Look for the IPv4 or IP Address field. It will look something like 192.168.1.100.
  4. Write this down for later.

Step 2: Access the Web Interface

  1. Open a web browser on a device connected to the same network as your handset.
  2. Enter the IP address of your handset into the browser's address bar and press Enter.
  3. A login page will appear.
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin (or the custom password if it has been changed)

Step 3: Configure the SIP Account

  1. Once logged in, click on click on the Account option then Register.
    • On the older portals, it will be a tab along the top
    • On the newer portals, it will be an option on the left-hand side.
  2. Change Line Active to Enabled or ON.
  3. Fill in the fields with your SIP details:
    • Label: Your name or desired label
    • Display Name: Your name or desired label
    • Register Name: Your SIP Username
    • Username: Your SIP Username
    • Password: Your SIP Password
    • Server Host: sip.telair.net.au
  4. Save your changes.

Step 4: Check SIP Registration

  1. After saving, check the Register status (located near the top of the page) to see if the handset registers. - It should say Registered.
  2. If it shows Register Failed, double-check your SIP details and ensure your network allows SIP traffic (check firewalls and ports).

Step 5: Make a Test Call

Once registered:

  1. Pick up the handset.
  2. Dial a number to test outgoing calls.
  3. Have someone call your number to test incoming calls.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Cannot Access Web Interface: Ensure your device is on the same network as the handset.
  • Not Registering: Verify your SIP credentials and ensure the correct transport protocol (UDP/TCP/TLS) is selected.
  • Call Issues: Confirm NAT and firewall settings allow SIP traffic, and check with your provider for additional settings.
